Newest Obsession: Layering Lip Products

I'm not exactly sure why but lately I have been absolutely enamored with layering lip products.
Okay okay I take it back I think I know why... it's because I've been really freaking amazing at not buying myself excessive and fanciful products this year (clearly I'm not bitter at all) and instead have been trying to get creative with the cosmetics that I already have.

Thankfully my thriftiness with my makeup drawers has been a fruitful endeavor so I figured I should share my findings with you all today!!
Take the usual jump for details :D

(L-R) Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain "Romantic" / H&M Apple & Guava Flavored Lip Gloss / Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain "Crush" / Smashbox Limitless Long Wear Lip Gloss "Limitless"

Two of my favorite layering creations, and two of the most complimented, are with these products.
Because I'm using the balm stain as a base my lips are given great pigment and stay extremely hydrated throughout the day. Putting a lipgloss on top just seals in that moisture and really gives a unique finish because it mixes with the balm stain rather than just sitting on top of it.

Feel free to insert ooo's and ahhh's here.

I find that layering these products creates an absolute powerhouse; the colors produced are gorgeous and they tend to last at least 5 hours before wearing off on my lips.
I APPROVE!!

Do you ever layer your lip products?
What are some of your favorite combinations?
Do share!

xoxo - Cassie

  2. Gorgeous looks! I've always been scared to try layering because I'm afraid to contaminate my lipgloss wands with lipstick haha. Have you tried layering lip products?

    1. Thanks Jane!! Haha yeah the wands to get a little dirty but surprisingly it just sort of stains the wand so that if you just want to wear the gloss you won't have the color from a previous layering experiment :) And I'm assuming you mean tried layering lipsticks? Surprisingly enough I haven't!! It'll have to be my next endeavor...

  3. Wow, your last pic looks great! I layer lip products all the time. I never find lipstick moisturizing enough and so always add a gloss over the top.

    1. Aw thanks so much Monica! I actually have heard that a lot of people do it for the reasons you do... I just haven't been much of a gloss girl until this last year (and, you know, around sixth/seventh grade) so I'm just hopping onto this bandwagon :D

  5. I loooove layering lip products! I'll even wear two lipsticks or lip stains to achieve an exact shade I'm looking for because I got so sick of trying to find "the perfect pink" and buying shade after shade and not getting what I want. Now I'll just mix two colors to get a new one. :)

  7. I love lipstick and then lipgloss, as long as the lipgloss isn't sticky. Sticky lipgloss does my head in! Eww, especially when walking against the wind and your hair gets stuck in it!

    1. Haha yeah a lot of people hate sticky lip gloss... I really like it though hahaha. I definitely make a point to tie my hair back on days that I'm going to be wearing gloss though to avoid the dreaded hair getting stuck in it yuck!!

  9. I'm not a huge fan of layering products. I always feel like I have to much product on my lips and it makes me quite uncomfortable. Don't have many lip glosses to layer with, either, LOL! BUT, you are VERY pretty! Your eyes are super pretty, too! :)

    1. Hahahahh oh Jess no need for all of the compliments just because you don't like layering lip products!! I can definitely understand that it's not for everyone so I take no offense ;) But thank you dear you are too kind (seriously!).

  10. I have the Revlon balm stain in Crus but find its to much for daytime so love the idea of layering more of a nude gloss on top xx

    1. It definitely is a bolder shade (though I don't mind wearing Crush during the day myself) so I'm glad maybe you got some inspiration to layer it up to make it more wearable for yourself!! :)

  12. I love layering to make exactly the shade I want. That it saves money I can then spend elsewhere (books!), is just an additional benefit to go along with keeping the collection down to a point where I can usually, usually, find what I'm looking for. I actually tossed an empty last night, a rare occurrence to be celebrated.
